The story
by Enoteca Fratelli Zanobini
In 1944, in the heart of Florence, Fratelli Zanobini was founded, a wine shop that is not just a point of sale, but the last link in a family supply chain built with passion and expertise.
The story begins in the land: with the production of Chianti Classico wine at the Tenuta Le Lame estate in San Casciano in Val di Pesa. Its roots are ancient: as early as the 1700s, vine cultivation and winemaking were central to the Zanobini family. From the vineyard to the bottle, every step has always been closely monitored, with careful supervision and a clear vision: to offer wines that express their identity, territory, and work.
Founded by brothers Gino and Silvano Zanobini, with the aim of directly selling the wines produced on the estate, the Enoteca is located in the historic center of Florence on Via Sant’Antonino, a few steps from the San Lorenzo Market, an area that has always been the beating heart of Florentine popular and commercial life. At the time (1944), it was a wine shop with a glass of wine, a typical shop where wine was sold by the glass and where you could drink a glass on the spot, creating a place for socializing and exchange.
Over time, the business has grown and evolved, while always maintaining its traditional, family-run character. Today, the wine shop is still run by Mario Zanobini (Gino’s son) and the third generation, with Marco and Fabio (Mario’s sons) continuing the tradition and leading both the wine shop and the wine production.
The new generation has given further impetus to the project. Marco, an oenologist, leads the production side with technical expertise and a modern vision and, together with his brother Fabio, has developed an important business by creating a bridge between the winery, the wine shop, and both national and international customers. Customers don’t just come in to buy a bottle: they come to hear a story, discover a pairing, understand a vintage.
The strength of the Enoteca Fratelli Zanobini lies primarily in the integration of:
- agricultural production
- processing and winemaking
- promotion and tasting
- direct sales in the wine shop
A complete, family-run, and coherent supply chain. Today, the wine shop represents the culmination of a journey that begins in the vineyard and ends in the glass, always keeping quality, relationships, and authenticity at its core.
The Enoteca Fratelli Zanobini is more than just a wine shop: it is a historic establishment, a meeting place where you can experience a typically Florentine atmosphere, filled with bottles, conversation, tastings, and wine culture. The pouring service (i.e., drinking by the glass) remains the heart of the business, with a wide selection of wines, sparkling wines, liqueurs, and spirits.
In addition to the many national and international wine labels (approximately 2,000–2,500), the wine shop also offers wines produced directly by the Zanobini family at the Tenuta Le Lame in San Casciano in Val di Pesa, in the heart of Chianti Classico.
The business is considered one of the “Esercizi Storici Fiorentini” traditional businesses that represent the commercial, social, and cultural heritage of the city of Florence.
